MARATHI DIVAS AT DON BOSCO MATUNGA

BIS Correspondent

MATUNGA-MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 28, 2013: The Primary section of Don Bosco High school, Matunga <![if !vml]><![endif]>observed Marathi Divas on February 27, 2013. The main objective of celebrating this day was to create an awareness  among our students of the richness of Marathi culture, to popularise Marathi, our regional language and to instil in our students pride for our state, "Maharashtra."

The corridors and classrooms of the building bore a festive look. A variety of `Torans` created a rainbow of colours in the building. The `Rangolis` were breath-taking. Common Marathi phrases and greetings adorned the walls of the building.

At a Marathi Elocution Competition organised for the students of Std. III and IV the students were exposed to Marathi literature in its simplest form. Our students recited Marathi poems with confidence.

Our esteemed judges were given a taste of the Don Bosco hospitality in a traditional Maharashtrian style when <![if !vml]><![endif]>they were greeted with an "Aarti" and "Tilak."

Some staff and students came dressed in the traditional Maharashtrian attire to add to the festivities. Thanks to the initiative taken by some staff members and co-operation from the school management the staff enjoyed a lavish Maharashtrian spread for lunch.

`Jai Maharashtra` became the favourite phrase for the day.

Dr Nelson Falcao Ph. D was invited to present a forty five minutes paper on the four hundred years of Christian influence of post-colonial rule in Indian sub- continent by missionaries to bring about interreligious dialogue, harmony and development of this civilization of love.

A series of three power-points one on Thomas Stephen and his K. P. inputs, a selection of literary contributors to the Christian ethos and another presentation on …. Showed the value Christian morality and ethical life style has in the consciousness of the Marathi People.

<![if !vml]><![endif]>Many other presenters made their contribution in terms of Arya Samaj, Brahma samaj, Theosophical society and other ideologies that shaped and molded the Indian culture of the Indian people.

The seminar showcased a new openness to what pluriform influences can make our culture and civilization one of mutual dialogue and enrichment. This seminar expressed the search of a confused people for a full mature and whole life. While being a probe into the rationale for meaning in life, it was also a search for the roots & wings of humanity.

Congratulations to Pune University for organizing such a radical seminar and workshop where people from various tangents and bi-polarized viewpoints met in the same air conditioned hall to look into each other's eyes, face each other and re-assure ourselves that our  common future is bright and we are on our way to a 'hot' communication that is honest, open, transparent and human dialogue in a fair and free manner for building a Better India.

07)       SPIRITUAL DIMENSION OF THE NEW EVANGELIZATION    Proposition 36
08)       PARISHES AND OTHER ECCLESIAL REALITIES                                   Proposition 26
09)       WITNESSING IN A SECULARIZED WORLD                               Proposition 8
10)       THE ROLE OF THE LAY FAITHFUL                                              Proposition 45
11)       FORMATION FOR EVANGELIZERS                                              Proposition 45
12)       THE CHRISTIAN FAMILY                                                              Proposition 48
13)       YOUTH AND THE NEW EVANGELIZATION                             Proposition 51
14)       THE TRANSMISSION OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH                    Proposition 57
15)       CHALLENGES OF OUR TIME                                                        Proposition 13

A meaningful prayer service was then conducted by Lloyd Nunes, a Team coordinator.  He focused on the Passion of Our Lord, and Reflections on the Lenten season, using power point presentations.

All the teachers who attended the recollection felt encouraged and supported.

The evening came to an end with delicious snacks being served.

BIS # 3406 ORIENTATION SEMINAR FOR THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

BOSCO INFORMATION SERVICE # 3406
ORIENTATION SEMINAR FOR THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
Patrick John Ashing
NAJAFGARH- DELHI, FEBRUARY 25, 2013:   It is said, "Well begun is half done", and what better way of beginning any great work or undertaking <![if !vml]><![endif]>than by placing oneself at the feet of the Lord, listening to His Word and imploring His graces and blessings? Keeping this in mind, the newly-constituted parish council members of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Najafgarh, about twenty five in number, accompanied by Rev. Fr. Katara Mathew the parish Priest left early in the morning at 8.00 am on Sunday, February 24 from the precincts of the Church to attend a half-day orientation programme at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Goledakhana.
The programme promptly began at 10.00 am with the celebration of the Holy Mass. The chief celebrant was Bishop Franco, assisted by Director of Small Christian Communities in the archdiocese, Fr. Peter Emmanuel, alongwith Fr. Sebastian and Fr. Arokiadas. A devotional and prayerful atmosphere was accorded to the mass by the lively singing of the St. Xavier's Church Choir. About ten parishes attended this programme.
The highlight of the mass was of course the homily delivered by Bishop Franco. He spoke on what the Church is, the roles played by different members in the Church and what it entailed of each member to play his/her role faithfully and effectively. He also touched upon dissident voices within and outside the Church and asked us to regularly examine which agency we belonged to - Christ's or Satan's. In his inimical style, Bishop Franco interspersed his talk with short, amusing anecdotes that kept the congregation attentive, in splits of laughter and begging for more.
After mass, a role play identical to the working of the Municipal Corporation when portfolios are being distributed was enacted. After the role play, Manjula Thomas, resource person of the Diocesan Core Group of SCC asked the congregation to compare and contrast the manner in which the meeting of the MCD was conducted and that of the parish councils in the parishes.
After a short break, Joseph D'Souza, resource person from Pallotine Animation Centre, Nagpur conducted a <![if !vml]><![endif]>session, taking as his text, 1 Peter 5: 1-4. This passage was read out in English and Hindi and reflected upon. He was assisted by Emmanuel Johnson, resource person of the SCC Diocesan Core Group. Leaflets and booklets were distributed enlisting the vision and mission of the Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) and the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). One aspect on the working of each was taken up for discussion in groups. Sharing of insights was done by each group after the discussions.
At the end of the programme, the Vote of Thanks was proposed by Fr. Peter Emmanuel. Profuse thanks were rendered to Bishop Franco, Joseph D'Souza, the St. Xavier's Choir and all those who had worked hard to make the day's programme fruitful and successful.
