PREPARATORY CAMP FOR FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

DAKOR-AHMEDABAD, NOVEMBER 27, 2012 :  Christ the King Parish Dakor organized a preparatory camp for the First Holy Communion children of the Parish from November 18 to 24, 2012. This camp was also open for the children of other parishes.

 

The camp was headed by the parish priest Fr. Isaac and co-ordinated by the three communities (SDB, FMA, and St. Ann’s). There were twenty-one children who attended this camp. The boys stayed in Don Bosco boarding and the girls in the Pushpanjali boarding.

Every day of the camp began with an animated meditation followed by the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist was made meaningful with singing and a brief homily. The animators took sessions at various intervals to instruct the children in the faith and to make them feel at ease through creative media of action songs, videos, films, games, puzzles, and exercises.

 

Following were some of the topics dealt with: God our Loving Father, Creator, Human Being God’s most Unique Creation, Trusting in God, Jesus the Bread of life, Encountering Jesus at the Eucharist, Jesus sends the Holy Spirit, God’s Forgiving Love, Jesus reconciles us with the Father, etc.

 

The children were given the task of memorizing the basic prayers of the faith. Various games were organized everyday in the evening. There were various competitions organized for them like bhajans, skits, fancy dress, etc. The children responded very enthusiastically to the animators through their active participation during the sessions.

 

The parish priest Fr. Isaac culminated the camp by taking a brief revision of all the topics that were taken during the days. He also prepared five candidates who will be receiving the sacrament of Baptism on Saturday December 01, 2012.

 

The camp concluded with the Camp fire on Saturday 24 November. Each one came forward and performed their items. The winning team and the runners up team were awarded with prizes for their active participation. The children look forward to the day they will make their first confession and will be receiving First Holy Communion on Sunday December 02, 2012.
