ANNUAL MISSION CAMP TO TALASARI

BORIVALI-MUMBAI, NOVEMBER 22, 2012: Jesus Club Children from class seventh and eight of St. John Bosco Church, Borivali (West), planned their annual Mission Camp to Talasari (Thane District) on 21-22 November 2012. Around twenty-three boys, eighteen girls, thirteen youth and four teachers along with Fr. Allwyn Misquitta, began their trip on November 21, 2012 at 7:00 am to experience the lifestyle and works of the priests working at the mission. Talasari is a city and a municipal council in Thane district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is one of the talukas of Thane district.

Fathers at the mission welcomed the children, after the children settled they were given a small input session on the mission that they had come to visit. The mission is associated with various programmes. There was a talk by all the priest who shared their various experience they had at the missions they have worked with. There are in all twenty-one parishes, around nine thousand five hundred catholic, thirteen priest are spread across the mission station and five Congregation of the Sisters, around seven thousand three hundred students spread all over. This mission is around eighty-five years old and is handled by Jesuit priest. There is a chapel by the name of Our Lady of Perpetual Succor. The villages are dominated by the Warli tribe.

The children were divided in four groups and sent to four different villages so that they experience the life on the people in villages. The villagers and children, also welcomed the children in the traditional Indian style of welcoming the guest. The children had a great experience meeting the villagers and children and mingling with them.

When the children returned back rosary was recited and the Eucharist was celebrated followed by supper. The day one came to an end with a fun filled evening after supper, where children shared their experience of their visit; they prepared a skit keeping in mind the year of Faith followed by various games organized by Sir Mark.

Day two began with the Eucharist, followed by breakfast, after which the children were taken to Dayanchand Hospital, where they were given an input session of the works and facilities available in the hospital. Then the children went around the hospital where they met adults having leprosy and the O. P. D. patients. The children were taken for site seeing at the dam.

Once back the children had their delicious lunch that was prepared for them, after which they packed their bags to returns home.

We thanked the priest for giving us this opportunity for visiting their mission station and making it a memorable one for our children.

I also take this opportunity to thank Fr. Allwyn, the teachers and all the youth for making this experience a memorable one for our children.
